Un petit hôtel au charme légèrement désuet et très bien situé pour une approche de Berlin légèrement décalée.

My wife and I loved this period style hotel. We were there for the Berlin Marathon and its location was perfect. Kurfürstendamm is a major street with lots of top class shops, theatres and many restaurants, although experience and advice from staff took us into the surrounding streets where we found some excellent eateries, including Il Calice (wonderful Italian wines!) and Reste Fidele. There are a couple of U-bahn stations within short walking distance, as well as links to the overground trains, buses and taxis. It is also possible to pick up the city bus tours on the same street.
We found the hotel without difficulty (all the buildings are numbered) and received a super welcome from a lady speaking perfect English. We stayed in room 17 at the front of the hotel. The room was delightfully decorated in blue and comfortably furnished. It had a separate sitting room overlooking Kurfürstendamm and separated from the sleeping area by a glass screen and doors, plus shutters. This meant that the room was completely quiet at night and we slept very well in the comfortable bed on all 3 nights of our stay.
The bathroom was adequate with shower, basin and WC and ample toiletries. Towels were on the small size but adequate.
Breakfast was great! We loved the ornate dining room with so many interesting things to look at. It seems the hotel has a long history of accommodating actors and actresses performing in nearby theaters and there are many signed photos adorning the walls. Breakfast was an extensive European buffet style with the pleasant servers providing choices of freshly cooked eggs and hot beverages. On a couple of occasions we ate at 6.30 am and even at this hour the service was good!
If you like to read there are books everywhere! And the hotel is pleased to allow book exchange for novels etc. There are also lots of reference/travel books including many for Berlin itself.

Whilst we have declared the hotel to be perfect we have nevertheless taken away its fifth star overall as well as one for cleanliness. This is because, rather disappointingly, they permit smoking in public areas, notably the reception area, which is close to the dining room.
